South East Hants Greens launch Portsmouth and Fareham Campaigns

20 February 2015

On the 19th of February the South-East Hampshire Green Party hosted their campaign launches for Portsmouth North & South and Fareham. They also had a talk about the complications that will come about should TTIP go ahead in the European Parliament from the South-East MEP Keith Taylor.

At the launch,  The Green Party heard from each of the candidates about their vision for their areas.

The first to give their talk was Portsmouth South Candidate, Ian McCulloch, he said:

"My great concern is the state of the three supposed main parties. People are feeling left out, abandoned by current political parties.

A lot of people are going to go to the polls thinking they have a choice of the lesser of three evils or Ukip. We want to show them there’s a positive vote."

The next to give a talk was 20-year-old Miles Grindey, who is the candidate for Fareham. He said:

"I'm incredibly proud and excited to be able to make a real difference and to support my local community. What can The Green Party offer Fareham? A clear alternative. Who was there for young people, businesses in Whiteley and pensioners when Hampshire County Council slashed the bus services? Who is standing shoulder to shoulder with residents in North Fareham as Fareham Borough Council continuously push for the environmentally, economically and socially catastrophic nightmare that is Welborne? It's always been js, The Green Party, defending local communities and standing up for what people need. Looking ahead to the future, prorgressing society forward."

The last of the three current candidates was Gavin Ellis (pictured, centre), who is standing for Portsmouth North, he said:

"The Green Party is the only party on the left representing the needs and wants of the electorate.

It’s about supporting local businesses. It’s also about supporting the youth. It’s about giving young people opportunities in life."

After the candidates gave their speeches, a video was played about the dangers of TTIP to our country and democracy in general. What followed was a talk by Keith Taylor MEP (above) about the dangers, he urged everyone there to lobby their politicians to stand against the proposed law so that we can prevent corporations controlling our laws.

Afterwards there was a panel discussion from representatives of the NHS, Keith Taylor, Ian McCulloch and Global Justice Portsmouth.
