At their regular meeting on the 12th of August, the South East Hampshire Green Party started their own petition to scrap the £500 election required to stand for Parliamentary elections. The Party believes that it is an out-of-date concept that favours wealthy parties and candidates, since it's inception the deposit has always been a large amount of money that is too much risk to lose - especially in this current economic climate.
The SE Hants Green Party wants to replace this deposit with a 100 signature nomination process, as it is far more democratic and enables the electorate more power to choose their own candidates.
The petition can be found on Change.org - click here to sign.
