South-East Hampshire Greens to attend demonstration against Welborne

The South-East Hampshire Green Party will be attending the public demonstration against the proposed development North of Fareham - "Welborne".

The party has a history of support for the groups against this catastrophic development,  The Green Party was in right at the start of the fight against Welbourne. We worked with Campaign to Protect Rural England to jointly  present a case at a regional planning inquiry. The Fareham Society and Wickham Parish Council people were also heavily involved. This was before the regional planning authorities were abolished. Afterwards Caroline Dibden and Andrea Claire Smith both spoke at a residents meeting in Funtley about the development.

One of the members who will be attending is former candidate for Warsash, Miles Grindey (pictured above). He wrote in a blog post on his website (specifically about Welborne):

"Fareham was already named the most car dependent town in the UK. This says quite a lot about the mentality of the council who are so insistent (well one Executive Leader is…) on having this development built. There are roads that are already terribly congested, where the shortest stop can create the longest queue. This development, along with the next-to-nothing public transport, could have a devastating impact on local jobs – who’d want to hire anyone in an area with terrible traffic jams and no way to get to work? The M27 was also named as the worst for delays, could you just imagine the devastation to our standards of living if Welborne is built?"

The South East Hampshire Green Party will continue to show their support to groups opposed to this devastating development.

The Public Demonstration will be held outside the Fernham Hall on the 15th of October starting at 9am.
