South-East Hampshire Greens attend demo in support of Anti-Welborne campaigners

Members of the South East Hampshire Green Party came out in support for the demonstration against Welborne on Wednesday. The Party believes this development will cause irreversible damage to Fareham’s infrastructure.

The Green Party has a history of support for groups opposed to this catastrophic development, having been involved since the start of the fight against Welborne, working with the Campaign to Protect Rural England to present a case at a regional planning inquiry. The Fareham Society and Wickham Parish Council people were also heavily involved. Afterwards Caroline Dibden and Andrea Claire Smith both spoke at a residents meeting in Funtley about the development.

Miles Grindey (pictured above - credit to Mike Garland for the photo), at the event, said “I’ve lived in Fareham all my life, in my lifetime I have seen the destruction of our local green spaces. Schools are getting packed up, and the roads are clogged up. I know we have a shortage of housing, but this is not the answer - just look at all the empty flats as you come into Fareham! Councillors say they can’t do anything about it, so then what are they here for? What’s the point of paying council tax if they’re just going to be complacent?”

The South East Green Party is to continue its support for community groups opposed to Welborne and other such devastating developments
